Restoration Walks

Take an interpretive walk along the Walk in the Forest Trail. It is a 600 m trail that takes you through old growth forest with towering cedars and a dense understory canopy of salmonberry, salal, ferns and mosses. The forest then darkens as you reach a dense single canopy of mature second growth forest. Here the forest floor is bare with the exception of leaf litter, mushrooms and decaying debris. The canopy then beings to open and life has started to return to the understory. This is were intense silviculture and restoration activities has created openings in the canopy. This has allowed light to reach the forest floor stimulating understory growth and biodiversity. The trail loops back through old growth forest until it reaches an platform that overlooks Lost Shoe Creek where spawning salmon can be observed in the fall.
