Fly Fishing Retreat

Women's Fly Fishing & Stream Ecology Workshop, 2013

On February 16th & 17th, Central Westcoast Forest Society hosted an introductory Women’s Fly Fishing & Stream Ecology Workshop at The Cabins at Terrace Beach in Ucluelet, BC. This workshop gave participants the opportunity to learn new skills and increase their understanding of the natural environment. The two-day course included fly fishing instruction on topics such as catch and release fishing, hooking a fish, fishing gear, rod and reel set-up, casting (dry land and river practice), fly tying and knots, and how to avoid catching snags. The course also covered information on freshwater fish, fish habitat ecology and local restoration activities. The workshop was instructed by local world class fly fisherman Morgan Thorp and CWFS staff, Lily Burke and Jessica Hutchinson. To add to the experience a fly tying tutorial evening with wine and cheese was also included.

Thank you to the 10 adventuresome women from all over Vancouver Island who participated. The company was great, the weather perfect and the experience memorable! Another thank you to Ron Clayton and staff from The Cabin's at Terrace Beach for the sharing the beautiful location and for the hospitality.

We are excited to start planning the next course! If you are interested in a beginner fly fishing workshop or intermediate fly fishing workshop please contact us at info@clayoquot.org.
